Fire Incident Lifecycle & Incident Status Definitions
Incident Lifecycle & Status Definitions for Incident Kind - Fire
Review the table below to learn about the fiResponse standard incident lifecycle and statuses for the Fire Incident Kind along with status icons, definitions, and references to equivalent NWCG National Data Standards. When an Incident Status is changed in the software, the color of the incident in the Incident List and on the map will be updated to match the icon. Incident statuses may vary by agency or organization.
Note: Ignition Date/Time and Discovery Date/Time do not represent standard fiResponse Fire Incident Statuses.
Icon | Date/Time and/or Incident Status | Description |
-- | Ignition Date/Time | Time between application of an ignition source and self-sustained combustion of a fuel. |
-- | Discovery Date/Time | Elapsed time from start of fire (known or estimated) until the time of the first discovery that results directly in fire suppression action. |
Reported | The date, hour, and minute of the report of the fire to the agency responsible for suppression.
Active | The starting date, hour, and minute of the first suppression work on a fire.
Contained | The status of a wildfire suppression action signifying that a control line has been completed around the fire, and any associated spot fires, which can reasonably be expected to stop the fire's spread.
Controlled | The completion of control line around a fire, any spot fires therefrom, and any interior islands to be saved; burned out any unburned area adjacent to the fire side of the control lines; and cool down all hotspots that are immediate threats to the control line, until the lines can reasonably be expected to hold under the foreseeable conditions.
Fire Out | The date when all observable combustion has ceased or there is no risk of the fire again becoming active and requiring additional control or management actions. All management activities directly relating to suppression (including mop-up), monitoring, or burning efforts have concluded; however, there may be secondary management efforts, such as burned area rehabilitation or hazard mitigation, still in process.
Closed | The date, hour, and minute when a jurisdictional agency completes all operational activities associated with an incident and is prepared to complete any necessary administrative activities, including official reporting, preparation of bills, and/or legal actions. |
